Actor Shilpa Shinde has come under heavy criticism on social media after a clip from Lock Upp went viral, showing her making remarks about fellow contestant Shivangi Joshi's innocence and virginity. In the video, Shilpa says, "Main bahut masoom hoon. Mujhe kuch nahi chahiye. Main virgin hoon. Main shaadi ke baad hi karungi" (I am very innocent. I don't want anything. I am a virgin. I will only do it after marriage). The remarks triggered widespread backlash from users on X.
The viral clip features Shilpa alongside Shreya Kalra and Madhuri Jain Grover during a conversation in which Shreya proposes that she imitate Harshad Chopra while Shilpa mimic Shivangi. The interaction has also prompted social media users to question Shreya's involvement, with both contestants facing criticism online.
During the exchange, Shreya tells Shilpa that she would perform Harshad's voice-over while Shilpa should imitate Shivangi. While mimicking Harshad, Shreya says, "Arre yaar, mera to koi itna secret hai bhi nahi. Kitni zor se acting karu mein? (Oh man, I don't even have any big secrets. How hard am I supposed to act?)" Shilpa then responds, "Main bahut masoom hoon. Mujhe kuch nahi chahiye. Main virgin hoon. Main shaadi ke baad hi karungi (I am very innocent. I don't want anything. I am a virgin. I will only do it after marriage)."
The clip drew strong reactions from several users on X. One user wrote, "eww shilpa tf is she on? netflix stop giving criminals your platform (sic)." Another posted, "Shilpa, how low are you going to stoop? Every. F*****. Single. Day. Giving a voice-over for Shivangi saying, 'Mai toh virgin hoon, ab shaadi ke baad krungi?' Seriously? Who the hell are you? This is the reality of this girl She’s the actual bully. Shivangi considers her as a friend and this is how she talks about her!!! Nothing can make be love Shreya period!! (sic)"
A third user criticised Shreya's reaction, writing, "Such a disgusting remark. The reason Shilpa said this today is because of Shreya, and even after hearing it, Shreya was laughing. This is the same Shreya who had an issue when similar things were said about Akanksha Choudhary on a podcast. And also today, when it's about Shivangi, she's laughing. Shame on both ladies. I am happy to support Shivangi; at least ek game ke liye usne apni limit to cross nahi kari hai. (sic)"
Another post read, "Sorry Miss Shreya Kalra and Shilpa Shinde, this is not how you operate on a global platform like Netflix. Please learn some grace from Shivangi Joshi (sic)."
The controversy surfaced after Shilpa, who was appointed as a controller inside the house, instructed Shivangi to maintain distance from Harshad and restrict her conversations with him. The directive reportedly left Shivangi emotionally distressed, leading to a breakdown.
Shivangi's sister, Sheetal, also voiced her support on social media while taking aim at Shilpa's conduct.
In a series of Instagram Stories, Sheetal alleged that despite knowing Shivangi was unwell, Shilpa continued to pressure her into handling work alone. She further claimed that other contestants were aware of the situation and accused Shilpa of singling out Shivangi because of personal resentment.
She added, "I stand by my sister who has played a fair game since day one, and I call out each and every Shivangians to come and support a butterfly girl who has spread nothing but love, peace, prosperity, kindness towards all her inmates. Stay strong Shivangi, We love you."
The latest controversy follows recent attention surrounding Shilpa's participation in Lock Upp, where she entered as a wild card contestant. In a recent episode, co-host Riteish Deshmukh invited contestants to react after Shilpa's admission about filing a false sexual harassment complaint against Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain producer Sanjay Kohli was discussed. While most contestants described it as a serious allegation capable of destroying someone's life, Akanksha Chamola said Shilpa may have felt trapped and believed she had no alternative at the time.
Last month, Shilpa revealed during a podcast with comedians Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa that the sexual harassment complaint she had filed against Sanjay Kohli nearly a decade ago was false. She said she lodged the complaint after exiting Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain because her pending dues had not been cleared, adding that she felt cornered and viewed the allegations as her last option. Shilpa further stated that the dispute was eventually settled and that she later received the payment that was owed to her.
